  1. Manhattans are definitely better stirred, not shaken. Shaking it cloud the drink and can ruin the texture by mixing ice particles into the drink.

  2. It is improper to use the standard off the shelf grocery store maraschino cherries in a proper Manhattan. Ideally, one uses Luxardo brand maraschinos or a "brandy soaked" equivalent for cocktail garnish.

  3. I would love this drink shaken or stirred, Anita. And with any kind of cherry you've got on you. :)

  4. Cool, Stacy. But the anon comments are generally accepted good practice for anyone else reading this who isn't experienced in making Manhattans. Simple changes can make a big difference in simple recipes like the Manhattan.

  5. Perhaps your palate is more discerning than my own, Anonymous. Good practices aside, just pour the drink and enjoy! And before you say it, true, I may never know what I am missing, but I'm fine with that. It's a drink. It's cold, delicious and has alcohol. I'm happy. Feel free to pity me. :)
